UNCHARTED STAGE is a digital space edited as a video. The aim is to create a territory representing a legal vacuum as a ground for a collective act and imagination to inspect the human right to movement and travel. We have collaborated as a group of artists based in Jordan and Germany to experiment with virtual collaboration. The work tackles privileged identity, border politics, and the psychological urge to move. 

The media focused on immaterial art objects such as sound, video, performance and writing. The idea was to use green screen technology to create a virtual space as an act of resistance that allows everyone to enter and exit on their own freely chosen impulse.

How can we leave without leaving, and how can we arrive without arriving? How can we create a space that challenges the concept of time and geography and remains in an ongoing dialogue? We build a virtual space as an act of resistance that allows everyone to enter and exit a territory on their own free choice of impulse.

UNCHARTED STAGE – eine Videoarbeit, die 2019 auf der Biennale Beirut und der Art Fair Beirut gezeigt wurde. Das Projekt hatte das Ziel ein Territorium zu kreieren, in dem wir kollektiv die soziale Ungleichheit des Menschenrechts auf Bewegungs- und Reisefreiheit untersuchten. Als eine Gruppe von europäischen und arabischen Künster:innen reflektierten wir über privilegierte Identität, Grenzpolitik und dem grundlegenden psychologischen Bewegungsdrang.

Der mediale Schwerpunkt lag auf immateriellen Kunstgegenständen wie Ton, Video, Performance und Schrift. Die Idee war es mithilfe von Greenscreen-Technik einen virtuellen Raum als Akt des Widerstands zu schaffen, der jedem die Möglichkeit gibt einzutreten und aus eigenem, frei wählbarem Impuls auszusteigen.

„Wie können wir gehen, ohne zu gehen? Wie können wir ankommen, ohne anzukommen? Wie können wir einen Raum schaffen, der Zeit und Geografie überwindet und uns noch immer in einem ständigen Dialog hält?“
